The bleak recent weather seems to echo the uncertain times of the pandemic. Hopefully sunny days ahead for us.

Tripod Rock is the most often photographed feature of this park and a formation which I rarely photograph. It is my opinion that creating dynamic nature images of rock formations is quite challenging.

Calling Wood Frogs at Jonathan’s Woods

Calling Wood Frogs at Jonathan’s Woods

March 2020
Morris County New Jersey

With recent temperatures peaking at 66 Fahrenheit, the Wood Frogs wasted no time in getting ready for their Spring rituals. This video was filmed in a small wetlands depression and not far from an expansive marsh.

Highlands Trail Overlook

Allamuchy Mountain State Park, New Jersey

I loved the elevated view of the Musconetcong River from this recent hike. It made my trek through the woods very much worth it. By standing behind the 2 foreground trees and utilizing a wideangle lens I was able to simulate a “frame within a frame” technique for the shot.

This was an approximate 3.5 mile round trip hike for me. I parked at the Sussex Branch Trailhead on Waterloo Road, then began ascending the White Trail which seemed to turn to a White/Orange blazed Trail before I made a left-hand turn onto the Teal blaze (Highlands Trail) to this overlook. I didn’t plan on it but wound up hiking the Red Trail back down to the Sussex Trail on my way back to the car.

It is always good to have a freshly charged cell phone with good service as well as a battery back-up charger for tackling a solo hike. I did re-charge my phone mid-hike and utilized the NJ state park map pdf to navigate my return.
