Autumn at Great Bay

I had to stand on a flimsy fallen tree to obtain this clear view of the lake. As Ansel Adams noted, “A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” Overcast skies also dictated adding an extra stop of light to the exposure to emphasize the foliage.

I am continuing to explore the park throughout all 4 seasons. Grateful to have the honor of Morris Parks using my artwork for the upcoming replacement of trail signage with the Pyramid Mountain visitors center. Pyramid Mountain is a natural resource enjoyed by thousands of hikers each year, both from in state and out of state.

I enjoyed the stark contrast of the diminutive late season fern against the dark textured tree trunk.

The hike behind Taylortown Reservoir is scenic and often a trail less travelled.

2019 POWWW October Foliage Hike to Hog Pen

This past Saturday, POWWW lead a group of hikers from Old Beach Glen Road up through the historic Hog Pen area of Jonathan’s Woods. Brisk morning weather quickly gave way to a sunny and mild October day.  We came across Denville Scouts Troop 118’s annual camping trip in the Hog Pen (by permission from the park commission). Great to see so many people outdoors enjoying our local natural resources!

Join us for our next free public event on November 2nd at 8:30AM at the Cedar Lake Clubhouse in Denville. Coffee, bagels, and donuts will be served. POWWW’s Annual General Meeting will summarize our events and milestones from 2019 followed by a guided hike through Jonathan’s Woods. Hiking boots, jacket, water and snack are recommended for the hike.

This was my first trek up this part of the Appalachian trail above the Delaware Water Gap. The hike from Camp Mohican was not easy but was not quite as grueling as I had heard.
