This morning I grabbed my mirrorless Canon camera, fumbled with manual settings and shot 2 frames before my lone battery died. I didn’t have enough reaction time to turn the image stabilization on but was fortunate to get a sharp shot at 1/13 of a second.

I liked how the silhouetted hawk in flight glided (searching for prey) just above the reeds. I also loved the pink sky tones signaling the end of the day.

The observation platform at High Point is located off the short but scenic driving loop. This is a very convenient way to get acquainted with High Point State Park, though not fully comprehensive of the diverse terrain to be found.

There is a great diversity of wildlife habitats at Greendell Marsh.  I plan on revisiting the area soon to show more of the limestone ridges after the trees have dropped the leaves.

Driving the course of Boonton Avenue from downtown Boonton to its confluence in Butler with Kakeout Road is an easy and relaxing way to get to Route 23 in Morris County. I always like to admire the water and woods around Taylortown Reservoir while driving through.

I had to stand on a flimsy fallen tree to obtain this clear view of the lake. As Ansel Adams noted, “A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” Overcast skies also dictated adding an extra stop of light to the exposure to emphasize the foliage.
