Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

I enjoyed the scenery at Pocosin Lakes just as much as I enjoyed the wildlife on our visit.
In addition to seeing a small handful of bears I also observed Red-headed Woodpecker, Blue Grosbeak, and Indigo Buntings.

A mild 50°F morning and drizzling rain dispersed patches of fog across the refuge.
Great Basin Rattlesnake
Zion National Park in Utah
While hiking in the backcountry we unknowingly came within a few feet of this small to medium sized rattlesnake. It watched us intently and did not rattle its tail.
