This fox was on the prowl for rodents on Pleasant Plains Road and also had a few pesky “hitchhiker” burs clinging to its coat.

This small Pickerel Frog jumped across the Orange Trail and onto a rock during my late day hike to the local hawkwatch.
My camera was quite low to the ground with a wide angle macro lens to capture this perspective.

I located this snake “by ear” after hearing some movement in crackling leaves below blueberry thickets.
This rattlesnake neither rattled nor coiled at me. We simply observed each other for a few short minutes. I believe this rattlesnake was on the smaller side as it was not much wider or longer than a common water snake.
When I am hiking into “snake country” I wear hiking boots + jeans and I bring a long telephoto lens for these chance encounters.

Taken on a warm spring day, a multitude of Painted Turtles were swimming to and fro near the Sportsmen Blind. Visit Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge’s Wildlife Observation Center on Long Hill Road in Gillette New Jersey.

The best way to “capture” wildlife is to snap a picture, do not bring animals indoors or home with you. Removing wildlife even temporarily from their habitat can impair their survival skills.
