Porcupine in North Jersey
High Point State Park
Sussex County NJ
June 2024
I couldn’t select my favorite frame of this young porcupine. These shots were taken not far from the NJ/NY Stateline where porcupines are a little more common. Periodically these cool critters are seen in the Northern parts of Morris County as well.

American Black Bear

Taken just moments before my prior post
Mama bear was largely concealed but closely monitoring us as we walked by on a trail. The cubs were fully cloaked by the forest understory.

Mom and the Kids
High Point State Park
Sussex County NJ
June 2024
As we exited the Kuser Dryden Natural Area, we spied on 1 distant black bear spying on us. Moments later the 2 cubs shot up a tree to get a better vantage point or to escape perceived danger. Luckily we were 20+ feet away when the encounter occurred.
