Still my favorite landscape of one of my favorite escapes. I’ve been trying to recreate this shot with a newer camera for about 10 years without much success so far. The fencing and dunes have drifted dramatically since the creation of this image in 2009.
Lisa and I are looking forward to our annual retreat to Cape May in October.

On a recent morning walk around the block in Lake Arrowhead I came across Mr & Mrs Woodpecker spiraling their ways around the base of a tree. In my experience, Pileateds may tolerate a close approach by a stealthy photographer.
This was a challenging shot in order to freeze the action of two moving birds in the shade. This lucky exposure occurred at 1/60th of a second which is a chance occurrence for handholding a telephoto lens.

My experience with Common Wood Nymphs is that they are rarely approachable and flighty. This individual an exception as I was able to get quite close for photographs.

This photo was taken in the Bamber Lake vicinity. I find Black Swallowtails difficult to photograph because they have rarely landed on nice perches for me and they also have an incredibly fast wingbeat.
